Handcrafted in the U.S.A., the most popular version of the iconic Open Road represents the ultimate mix of Western heritage and modern versatility. A proprietary fur-felt blend gives the Open Road 6X a substantial feel and stiffness, which offers a more secure fit and helps it retain its shape come rain or shine. With its western-style crown and 2 ¾” bound-edge brim, the Open Road 6X easily transitions from country to city, and looks equally sharp on a woman or a man.
Introduced in 1937, the Open Road was originally sold with an open crown, which could then be creased to the customer’s liking. Since 1948, it has been finished with a traditional, hand-pressed cattleman crease, and has been worn by modern pioneers and trailblazers ever since, from artists and outlaws to Presidents (including, most notably, LBJ, who was rarely photographed on his Texas ranch without his Open Road).
The Open Road 6X features a genuine leather sweatband and a 4 ¼” crown outfitted with a grosgrain hat band and branding-iron hat pin bearing the initials “JBS”, a nod to our founder, John B. Stetson, whose pioneering legacy lives on in every hat we sell.
